Use all your senses in the garden
March 29, 2008 by Elaine
The first thing I read yesterday morning was Kelly Rossiter’s lovely post on Planet Green. I thank her for reminding me to use my hearing — not just sight, smell, taste and touch — to experience the Spring garden. And not feel strange about going out in the middle of the night to witness the remarkable.

That’s a great link, thank you. I nearly had a very tactile experience today when I went out to walk in a nearby wood. I found a mass of little flowers on the bank of a stream and stooped to pick on so I could identify it later.
Didn’t realise the bank of the stream was so muddy - just managed to catch myself before falling face-first into it. I’m not sure my pride could have coped with the walk back home!
The plant, by the way, was something called a Wood Anemone.
Oh, the Wood Anemone is a lovely plant. Worth falling for. But so glad you caught yourself.
I’m really glad you liked the link. I love the image of neighbours, clad in pjs and slippers, gathered around a garden bed in the middle of the night, listening to the plants emerge from the soil.
